How we handle it
Registration requirements vary by municipality and they change. We confirm the current requirement with the village or city rather than relying on a stale list, file it, and record the registration number, effective date, and expiry against the property so the renewal is not a surprise. If a municipality tells us a property does not require registration, we record that too.
Does a vacant property in the Chicago area have to be registered?
Most Chicago-area municipalities require vacant property to be registered, many require renewal, and the requirements change. A&D confirms the current requirement directly with the municipality rather than relying on a stale list, files the registration, and records the registration number, effective date, and expiry so a renewal never lapses into a fine.
